Many thanks to Jeff Dice and the coordinators of Spring UP Day for arranging to include Centre Furnace Mansion in this special event! It was a very productive day and exceeded our expectations in every way!
Thank you to Penn State student volunteers Tal Amitai, Ben Dodge, Steve Dodge, Ahmad Alshamejiti, Dave Posocco, Cassie Hom, Angie Roman, Amanda Jones, Ali Haasz, Aimee Miller, Heather Bocelli, Heidi Bernknopf, Alice Chan, Monica Xu, Lindsy Koroly for doing a great job in the gardens.
And thank you to Centre Furnace gardeners and friends Bob Leonard, Jan Villastrigo, Judy Heberling, Carol Phillips, Jackie Melander, Jo Merrell, Chris Igo, Susan Bowser, Dick Pencek for coming to help out with leading group efforts and making the day go smoothly for everyone.
The effort to install the Martin house was arduous at best, but Bob and Dick were able to work out the mechanical problems and it is now looking lovely and ready for residents.
Penn State student volunteers easily completed several other projects on Spring UP Day including:
- Over 100 plants were potted up to add to the 2010 Plant Celebration fare
- Large quantities of garlic mustard were removed from the Wildlife Garden
- Many branches were picked up from the grounds
- The Front Parlor Garden and dogwood bed as well as several tree rings were weeded and mulched
- Over 50 painted baskets were antiqued to get them ready for preparing Mothers Day Baskets for sale at our Plant Celebration
We couldn't have asked for more. The sleet and rain even waited until most of us had left. A million thanks! This is a great boost for us in the gardens at a time when it is needed most.
Yours,Mary Sorensen
